Life size model 3-D ‘build’ of the EPA’s Ocean Survey Vessel, OSV Bold, as executed in the Virtual World, Second Life. This type of realization is more than a static image. It is to scale, with all the spaces, doorways and passageways that can be navigated ‘in world’ by users of Second Life, through their ‘avatars’. This construct was executed by Asterion Coen, a volunteer, using the 3 dimensional scripting language developed by Linden Labs, founder and manager of Second Life.

Overview
From Wikipedia: A virtual world is a computer-based simulated environment intended for its users to inhabit and interact via avatars. These avatars are usually represented in the form of two or three-dimensional graphical representations of humanoids (or other graphical or text-based avatars). Most, but not all, virtual worlds allow for multiple avatars for users. Read the full article at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Virtual_world
While these virtual environments have their roots in the video or computer gaming community (an estimated 140 million Americans participate), Second Life and other Virtual World applications have gone way beyond games or fantasies as the focus of the ‘online life’ of their users.
